Eye Candy

Malabrigo Worsted is now available in a machine washable version! This new Washted is so similar to the original Worsted. The colors are vibrant and the yarn is so soft and cushy.

Daruma Wool Mohair

Hello, beautiful mohair. This gorgeous bulky Wool Mohair from Daruma is so pretty.

I love the way this Raveler held it together with a light fingering yarn to create this gorgeous Column.

And this cardigan with Mohair held doubled looks so cozy!

How about a Gen?

Bulky mohair has not been popular for awhile, and it's cool to see designers using it again for these big, cozy sweaters!

Hand-Dyed Gems

We have SO MANY lovely hand-dyed yarns in the shop. Sometimes I just wander around and hold them and admire their beauty. Apparently I was on a pink kick this week.
I have been picking up this skein of pink Willow Sock from Farmer's Daughter Fibers for so long. I am not normally drawn to pink, but this one really gets me. I love it all clustered together with its pastel friends here.
This lustrous skein of sock yarn from Spun Right Round is really something, eh? It's a little vampire slayer, don't you think?

This Spun Right Round Sport Sock is such a cool combo of white and neon and speckles. This colorway is called Nervous Breakdown, which seems pretty appropriate this time of year.

We are so lucky to have such a variety of hand-dyed sock yarns to inspire us with their beautiful colors!

Arranmore Hats

We have a few wonderful hat samples of the Arranmore and Arranmore Light from The Fiber Co.

This Chunky Ribby Hat in Arranmore is so so soft. It has a nice thick brim, and it reminds me of a hat my mom wore my whole childhood. Except this one is so much softer. We have definitely run through some of this yarn since I took this pic, but we still have a nice supply, and I'm sure we will get more.
This adorable Andi Hat is so cute in Arranmore Light. I love how it shows off the marled colorway. The knitted fabric has such a nice drape and thickness. Oh man, this is such a nice yarn.

So nice to have these beautiful yarns in the shop and to have these great samples to show them off!

Let's Look at Ravelry

Sometimes I get a little bogged down with the projects, and I need some inspiration to get me excited about knitting again. I usually turn to my magazine collection or just go down some rabbit holes on Ravelry. Wanna see what I've found lately? Oh good. Here we go!

This These Days Scarf in Blue Sky Extra? Yes. Lots of size options, too. This yarn is super squishy.
Pic borrowed from Rav pattern page.
Love this cute Emmi hat in Malabrigo Rios. We just got a restock of Malabrigo!

Who doesn't need a crocheted Dragon hat?

This stunning Foldlines makes me want to cast on the Retrosaria Brusca right now. Look at that stitch definition!

This Passeggiata shawl would be great in so many of our hand-dyed sock yarns.

I'm in love with this cozy turtleneck Childhood. Do I use stash yarn or get myself some lovely red Cestari Fingering?

Okay, inspiration sorted. Now I'm ready to hunker down and knit for the rest of the winter!

Eye Candy

We have a bowl of alpaca pom poms from Handworks NW. They are like fluffy little clouds! If you are looking for that floaty look to finish off a handknit hat, these might be just the thing. Here's a little info how how these come to be, if you are interested. They are not produced in the same way as the alpaca yarns we love.

Look at all the wee things in this basket! Stitch markers, pins, scissors, enamel pins, and hand salve for you. This cute llama(?) wishes to see you soon.

Eye Candy

The neon yellow Malabrigo Rasta is an eye catcher! It's not quite panic time for last-minute gift knits, but this is here for you when the time comes.

Pom Pom Winter 2019

The new Pom Pom Quarterly is gorgeous, as usual. Let's have a peek at Winter 2019, which feels like a sunset on the beach a little bit.

This last one here with the colorblocking and the stripes is my favorite, and it's crocheted, of course...which I don't know how to do. Sigh. They are all lovely though. Pom Pom does it again!

Sweet Felix

Look at this sweet snow bunny sweater! Melissa used the light and lofty Cascade Aereo to make this perfectly wintery Felix Cardigan. The raglan details really make this sweater something special.
I made the pullover version earlier this year using orange Lopi. It is light and warm and so cozy, and I'm definitely planning a cardigan version. This is another fabulous pattern from Amy Christoffers, who can really do no wrong when it comes to sweater design in my opinion. Her designs are classic and modern, and always well-written.

This would make a great first sweater project, and it works up quick like a snow bunny in Aran weight yarn. Thanks for sharing this with us, Melissa!

Eye Candy

I know this basket might not look like much to a non-knitter, but those of us who know can recognize all kinds of awesome in here.
We have interchangeable needle sets from Lykke, ChiaoGoo, Knitter's Pride, as well as addi Flexi Flips, which will essentially eliminate the need for double-pointed needles. These high-quality tools will make knitting even more fun and make great gifts! If you are hoping to receive some of this awesome for the holidays, send your people in and we will make sure they bring home the best stuff for you.

Hats for Months

So it looks like winter is here...threats of snow, frosty mornings, cold ears. Time for more hats, I think, either for yourself or the people around you.
I want to knit all of these hats now. I keep giving my hats away whenever people compliment them, so I think it's justified that I cast on a few more over these chilly months.
These are all from Kelbourne Woolens Year of Hats experience. The patterns are free, and we have the substantial Aran weight Germantown yarn for you to choose from.

If today seems like a day that you'd like to get out of the house and maybe support a few small businesses around town, we certainly appreciate seeing you! Plus, I bet your head is cold, so you obviously need more hats.

Closed Thursday

Fiber Friends! We will be closing up at 6PM on Wednesday (no Open Knit Night) and closed Thursday this week, so come in and get all of your knitting supplies on Wednesday if you can. Back to our regular hours on Friday, opening at 10AM for all of the yarn shopping. We hope you are all enjoying these windy days!

If you are looking for a cool project, maybe this Flaked Hat from Amy Miller in Blue Sky Fibers Eco Cashmere. Who could possibly refuse?

Malabrigo Sock

Sock tubes!
Arne and Carlos

I bought sock yarn not too long ago, and then I ask the Side Hustle Sock friends to make tubes for me. Now all I need to do is make heels, toes, and cuffs.
Jawoll Color Superwash
I love the way these yarns knit up, and I think the recipient of these cozy socks is going to be shocked and amazed that I made this happen so quickly. (Thanks to some little sock tube-winding elves.)

Distitch?

What is this, you ask?
Pic borrowed from Rav pattern page
Apparently this is a new thing called distitch, which leaves you with a clean I-cord-like selvedge and I want to try it! The free pattern on Ravelry called the Distitch Edge Scarf is written for worsted weight yarn, but I think you could make this technique work with any weight. There's a whole book about it with scarves, hats, headbands, and coasters. Has anyone tried this? Tell me what you think!

Eye Candy

All the Malabrigo, please. Especially this new shade of Worsted.

Oh no...

Oh no. My yarn stash has been busting at the seams for some time now, and I fear it's about to get a little more strained. What am I supposed to do when Sally brings in these gorgeous shades of Arranmore Light from The Fibre Co?
This DK marled tweed it pretty much all of my favorite things. And think about how nicely all of those shades of blue would play together. I'm envisioning an ombre sort of pullover or maybe a huge wrap using one of each.

I'm also in love with williesmom's January Gansey and tdickey's Cranberry Gose. Go take a peek to see what I mean. I'm thinking I might need to make Amy Christoffer's Ryder Pullover...love that funnel neck and sophisticated fit.

Pic borrowed from Rav pattern page.
Okay. At least four skeins of this classic yarn might just need to come home with me this week. I'm sure we will make room.
