Malabrigo Sock

The Malabrigo Sock pulled me in again. This stuff is so cool. It's entirely possible that I purchased a skein of the dark and moody speckled one on the right for holiday gift socks.

It's also very likely that I sent it off to the Side Hustle Socks friends to create a tube so I can add heels and toes and cuffs and feel super accomplished because I don't have time to knit all the things before the holidays!

The newest Knitted Wit Sock is called Believing the Good, in case you needed that reminder from your sock yarn. Some days I certainly do!

Crazy Colors from Knitted Wit

The newest batch of Sock (formerly Victory Sock) from Knitted Wit is pretty fun! I love working with this yarn. The knitted fabric is beefy and durable, and the colors are always vibrant.

I have not been able to find any samples of how this all knits up. If you have made something with these new colorways, let us know what happens!

Jawoll Color

This Jawoll Color sock yarn is so pretty! And each ball comes with a spool of nylon reinforcing thread for those heels and toes. 

You can see a little picture on the label that gives you an idea of how it will knit up. I love the subtle color changes and the pretty earthy tones that we have in the shop. These colors are sure to please anyone!

Eye Candy

Regia Arne and Carlos 6 ply is in the shop. I've used the fingering weight version of this yarn, and I love the colors and the durability. The 6 ply is a sport weight with so many possibilities, from socks to blankets to sweaters to hats to sweet baby sleep sacks.

Look at that big ol' beautiful skein. Just one of these will make a pair of grown up socks. Enjoy!

Take a look at this cozy Wave sock! Worked up in the worsted weight 220 Superwash Wave, you could crank these out as a gift for yourself or someone you like. The pattern is a sort-of-made-up one by Emily. Give us a call or stop in to get the details. Love the way the colors worked up!

Sparkle sock yarn from Knitted Wit. The Pixie Plied is 400 yards of awesome sock yarn with sparkles. The solid colors are so pretty, too!

Socks on Tiny Needles

The sock knitting has begun. We have some 9" circular needles in small sizes (US0, 1, and 2) to get you over that hump of starting a sock. No DPNs or multiple needles or magic loop to juggle! Just like starting a hat or a sweater or anything. I am very excited to see this sock progress. I think we have all the colors in the shop now.

There is also talk of some crazy combinations for the Rose City Rollers sock pattern. I'm not sure what the final verdict was, but there will be crazy toes with a (maybe?) less crazy body.

Who knows what the crazy knitters will do, but the tiny needles have us starting socks!

Colorful Cascade

The huge boxes from Cascade Yarns last month included these colorful new friends.

The Cascade 220 Superwash Aran Splatter looks like fun, doesn't it? The Cascade website shows all of the shades and how they knit up. Many work up with flecks of color and a very subtle stripe sequence, but a few are little more bold in their striping. The Primary one in the middle there is very stripey indeed. This yarn is begging to be knit into a kid sweater. Machine washable, fun colors, Aran weight...done in no time at all.

I was also excited to see the new Cascade Heritage Prints sock yarn in some fun self-patterning shades. I love this yarn. It solid, inexpensive, and the colors are always vibrant. Each 100g ball will make a pair of adult socks for just $13.25. It's a good deal. The label on each ball shows how it will knit up, but the website gives you even more detail. 

The pattern will change slightly depending on how many stitches you cast on, but these kinds of yarn always manage to look cool. I find that working with self-patterning yarns like these keep me very engaged in my knitting, as I'm always excited to see what the pattern is going to do next.

Fresh Goods on the Sock Wall

Our wall of sock yarn has been freshened with a few old favorites this fall.

Schoppel-Wolle Crazy Zauberball does a really cool marled-fade-slow-color-change sort of thing. It would be great for funky socks, scarves, hats, baby sweaters...all kids of cool stuff.

There is a great design in Weekend Hats (the best hat book ever) using just one ball of this yarn, the Brier Toque.

Ambiente has been freshly-restocked as well. This is always a popular yarn. You can see an example of the self-patterning action in our sock sample. I know a few of our knitters were using Ambiente to make Sock Yarn Bunnies a few years back. One ball makes a bunny, if I'm remembering things correctly.

The little mascot for the new Opal Classics sock yarn line is adorable, isn't she?

The sock yarn is good, too. I've knit a few pairs of socks with Opal yarns, and they just don't wear out. I like the range of color in these new shades. They would be really great for man socks, too...plenty of yarn for some big socks.

It's always nice to replenish some of our favorite sock yarns. What else would you like to see back in stock?

Unicorn Farts?

Yup. Unicorn Farts, PDX Carpet, Autumn Rainbow, Fairy Garden, Witches Brew...so many great names. 

We have a fresh batch of Knitted Wit Victory Sock yarn in the shop. I resisted the PDX Carpet last time, but I don't think I'll have the strength this round.

We also have a nice range of Gumballs, which work up so nicely when you need just a little pop of sock yarn color. 

Lisa used one skein of Victory Sock and three colors of Gumballs to make her lovely Hitchhiker shawl. This well-loved pattern is available on Ravelry.

The addition of the solid stripes was sort of a happy accident, but I love the way it highlights certain colors from the main body of the shawl. I wonder how choosing different Gumballs would affect the look.

Now it's time to see which Gumballs go with my new PDX carpet yarn.
