Moon Sisters

Sparkle is always hard to photograph, but the super subtle sparkle on this luscious Moon Sisters from Farmer's Daughter Fibers is proving quite elusive. The bronze stellina spun with the merino and nylon seems to be integrated in a way that distributes the sparkle in a more even way than I usually see on these kinds of yarns. It's very classy. You'll have to come in to see for yourself!

Everyone Loves the Sparkles

We have the ever-popular Plymouth DFM Baby Alpaca Glow back in the shop. This yarn is a favorite...perfectly snowy white with just a little frost-kissed sparkle. The DFM stands for Dye For Me, since this yarn is intended to be a base for hand-dyers to create their own lovely colorways. That would be fun, too, but I love it just as it is!

Sparkle sock yarn from Knitted Wit. The Pixie Plied is 400 yards of awesome sock yarn with sparkles. The solid colors are so pretty, too!

Alpaca Silver

Take a look at the sparkle! Sally is knitting up the new Alpaca Silver from Katia using two shades of gray. We do love our neutrals at Close Knit. She's working on a simple garter striped cowl, and it's going to be so lovely!

If you like shades outside of the neutral range, we have those, too. Pop in and choose your favorite!

Bling

We have some holiday sparkle happening at the shop. There is always a call for some glitter around the holidays, and Diana really fits the bill.

Lisa used one skein of the gold to create this easy-peasy I-cord necklace. 

Want to make your own? Here's the pattern. Using a US15, cast on 3 stitches and work I-cord until the yarn is gone. Bind off, weave in the ends and call it done. Lisa tied a knot in the end of hers.

Sparkles!

The sparkles are here!  They refused to be photographed in their full glory, but they are here.

The Baby Llama Glow has always been popular in the shop.  It is part of a line from Plymouth Yarns called DyeForMe which was intended to be hand-dyed, so all the yarns are white as a base for the dyes.  I have yet to see any of it dyed up though, probably because it is so beautiful as it is.  The sparkles are subtle and well-distributed, the yarn itself is soft and lofty, and the finished knits are just perfect.  To top it all off, each skein contains 273 yards.

I used a skein to make a Simple Pleasures Hat, and I know Adrienne (and several others) used it to make Teal from Kim Hargreaves' Winter Blooms Collection.   

My friend Laura made my Bias Scarf using just two skeins.  She added some buttons to change it into more of a wrap.

Whatever you choose to make with it, I would decide soon.  The shelves might be full now, but this pretty stuff flies!

Plymouth Glow

Plymouth has sent more sparkles!  You all seem to love this stuff, so we are happy to announce the arrival of more Glow.

 

The original Baby Llama Glow is a worsted weight, working up at 5 stitches per inch on a US7.  It's 95% baby llama and 5% sparkly stellina, with 273 yards in each pretty skein.

I used it for a slouchy sparkly hat a few winters back.  My hat was based on the Simple Pleasures Hat from the Purl Bee.  I just skipped the mohair since the llama gives a nice halo all on its own.

Adrienne used it for a sweater, and I know she inspired several of you to do the same.  This is Teal from Kim Hargreaves' Winter Blooms.  She made this whole beautiful sweater with only four skeins.

Not only do we have the Baby Llama Glow, we are also happy to see a new laceweight version, Suri Alpaca Merino Glow.  

As the name implies, this one is suri alpaca, merino, and stellina.  The suri alpaca makes it even softer than the original, and this one is much finer, with 1094 yards per skein.  It is brand new this season, and I'm very interested to see what you all choose to do with it.  I'm thinking shawls and scarves, but you all might come up with something even more fabulous.

These yarns are part of Plymouth's Dye For Me series, and they are made specifically for hand-dyers.  If you are so inclined, you could create some amazing and colorful yarn.  Personally, I love it as is.  What do you think?

It's sparkly sock yarn. Seriously.

We've restocked some of our favorites from The Fibre Company, including Road to China Light, Organik, and Terra.

We now have Savannah, an interesting blend of wool, cotton, linen, and soya. It's a little bit crunchy with a really nice texture. As usual, The Fibre Company colors are sophisticated and rich.

More Angora from Plymouth Yarns. Melissa used one wee ball to make these sweet little booties for her little girl on the way. We have the pattern available for free at the shop.

Coffee Beenz, also from Plymouth Yarns.
Machine washable, worsted weight tweed. Perfect for the itch-sensitive recipients in your life who cannot handwash to save their lives. Plus, it's $7.25 for more than 200 yards.

More Brown Sheep Burly Spun is on the shelves, too. If you are one of the four people in Portland who has not made the Close Knit Seed Stitch Cowl, come and get it.

Also, don't forget to turn your clocks one hour forward this weekend! Even though the rain seems to be teasing us again for the time being, spring must be just around the corner.

The Sparkle Fairy

The Sparkle Fairy has been busy at Close Knit.

Flicker, new from Berroco, is an alpaca blend chainette yarn with a super soft thread of tinsel running through it. The texture of the yarn reminds me of Rowan Lima, and each skein is as light as a cloud. I like that the gold or silver metallic bits are coordinated to the shade, too. At this moment we have all six earth-toned colorways, but they are going to go fast.

Luna from Tahki Stacy Charles is a mohair/silk blend with tiny little sparkles. This is our replacement for Rowan Kidsilk Night, which, sadly, has been discontinued. This is great for lacy shawls, simple shrugs, lightweight tops...anything that you might make with Kidsilk Haze would be beautiful with Luna.

Kollage Glisten, an alpaca/silk blend, knits up with a pretty halo. We have several rich jewel tones right now. Perfect for hats, scarves, cowls, and sweaters.

If you like the big stuff, try the Plymouth Grande Glow, which is the ever-popular Baby Alpaca Grande with a little glimmer. Nancy's Venessa Headband or her Tristan Scarf would be really cool with this.

If you loved the Plymouth Baby Llama Glow the first time around, you will be happy to see more on the shelves again.
