We have these beautiful bouquets of Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok for all of you with the need to stripe and colorwork all the things. Neutrals? Yup. Warm colors? Yup. Cool colors? Yup. We have it all.

Closed Thursday

Fiber Friends! We will be closing up at 6PM on Wednesday (no Open Knit Night) and closed Thursday this week, so come in and get all of your knitting supplies on Wednesday if you can. Back to our regular hours on Friday, opening at 10AM for all of the yarn shopping. We hope you are all enjoying these windy days!

Remember that cool Printed Organic Cotton from Blue Sky Fibers? Here's the sweet baby hat that Sally made with it! Love this cool effect.

Printed Cotton

You know we love a good marl or a speckle or a variegated yarn, so we were pretty intrigued by the idea of a printed yarn. What does that even mean?

According to the folks at Blue Sky Fibers, the Printed Organic Cotton yarn is created using an "ink press and the artisan hand". Not sure what that means, but it sure sounds interesting, and the results are stunning!

I'm thinking this would make a perfect cotton sweatshirt for summer, especially in that sunny yellow. Maybe a cozy Flax or a Shellseeker. A soft baby blanket would be lovely, too, perhaps in a nice range of shades. The Purl Soho Chevron Baby Blanket is forever my favorite, and it would be so cool with 5 or 6 of these. I can't wait to see more projects using this yarn!

Mittens

My daughter would call these Mixed Matched Mitts, but they are really the Virginia Mitts from Blue Sky Fibers.

Knit in the softest of soft Baby Alpaca, these would be fun to knit and to give to a happy friend with chilly hands...also an ideal on the go project this spring and summer. Sitting at practices and games? Riding the max to work? Waiting for an appointment? Never hurts to have some mittens to knit.

Check out these new Silver Bay Scarf kits from Blue Sky Fibers. The kits contain the yarn and pattern that you'll need to make this beautiful scarf.

The elongated stitch pattern looks fancy, but it's very easy to do and makes for some speedy knitting. These kits make lovely gifts for your favorite knitter, or you can send your people in to get one for you!

This trunk show from Blue Sky Fibers is awesome! 

It's so great to see how this Woolstok Jumbo works up. We have the Arm Knit Wrap, the Jasper Jumbo Cowl (8 year old for scale), and the Odin Jumbo Hat. Pop in to see these super cool knits!

Woolstok Jumbo

Woolstok Jumbo is here, and it's huge!!! Look at these huge yarn eggs! This cool stuff knits up at 0.25 to 1 stitch per inch on US35 to 100 needles. Each of these mega jumbo skeins contains 45 yards of fine highland wool with a cool braided/i-cord kind of construction.

The Blue Sky Fibers site has several free patterns for this yarn, including this super cool Big Lake Rug and a fun Arm Knit Wrap, which can easily be sized up to a throw or blanket.

Eco Cashmere

Blue Sky Fibers has a line of beautiful sustainably-crafted cashmere, and it's gorgeous! Eco Cashmere is made from both recycled and virgin cashmere, but it's still 100% luxurious cashmere. This yarn is light as a feather and squishably soft. 

Sally used our Simple Slouch pattern (free in the shop with your yarn purchase) to make this awesome cap while she was backpacking a few weeks back, and it's pretty much perfect. She is currently working on one in the reverse colors. Stop in and squish the cashmere to truly appreciate this lovely new yarn!

Rose City Yarn Crawl: Trunk Shows and Visitors

The Rose City Yarn Crawl starts up on Thursday! We talked about the patterns that will be available in the shops, but there is a ton going on each day.

Every year for the yarn crawl, we are thrilled to invite visitors to our shop to show of their gorgeous goods. These trunk shows give you a chance to try on garments, check out how certain yarns will work up, and be inspired by all of the fabulous things these folks are doing. The hand-dyer trunk shows are so much fun! In addition to seeing the yarn worked up into lovely items, you'll get to meet the folks behind some of our shop favorites and really appreciate how much work and love go in to creating these beautiful yarns.

There's a basket of Blue Sky Fibers Organic Cotton in the shop. There's not a lot, but the colors are so good. You only need one of each shade to make a Purl Bee Chevron Baby Blanket. 

I've made two! The pattern is really fun, and the yarn is amazing. Need a baby gift? This could be your go-to.

Endless Eye Candy

How about this Endless Wrap from the Blue Sky Fibers trunk show? It's knit with nine skeins of Woolstok, making it the coziest thing ever. Sally has it wrapped around several times here, and she is very toasty warm. Winter is not over, friends!

Close Knit Yarn Crawl Patterns

As part of the yarn crawl, we have two brand new shop patterns for you!

The sweet and romantic Silver Tip Fingerless Gloves are crocheted in Berroco Indigo, a beautiful cotton yarn made from recycled fibers. It will remind you of your favorite jeans.

The Coffee Beanie is a fun colorwork hat knit up in Woolstok from Blue Sky Fibers. This fun pattern works up so fast in this beautiful worsted weight yarn. 

These patterns will be available during the crawl for free with any purchase. After the yarn crawl, the patterns from all of the shops will be complied into an eBook available for sale on Ravelry. In addition, the yarns for each of these lovely designs will be 10% off during the crawl. We hope you love them as much as we do!

Rose City Yarn Crawl Starts Tomorrow!

Prepare to crawl, fiber enthusiasts! The RCYC has been a Portland institution for years now, and for good reason. Discover new yarns, meet dyers and designers, experience trunk shows from your favorite lines, and enter to win some epic prizes. Take a look at the prizes here. There is so much good stuff in these baskets!

Our little shop will be chock full of awesome yarn and people, even more so than usual. The full schedule is here, but I'll give you a little run down.

We will be showcasing trunk shows from Blue Sky Fibers and Shibui Knits during the entire event, beginning Thursday morning. If you have been excited to see these yarns knit up or try on a few of the garments from their recent pattern releases, then pop in for a chance to get your hands on these. Thursday and Friday are generally the quieter days when you'll have a better opportunity to see these in person.

On Thursday, we are thrilled to host Candice of Farmer's Daughter Fibers from Montana. Her yarns are so beautiful, my friends. They remind me a bit of Tosh in their subtlety and color range. You will love it, I promise. We are carrying her yarns full-time now, but she is going to bring all kinds of goodies from her dye studio that we might not see again. Thursday only!

On Friday, we will see Sarah of Bumblebirch Yarn. Her yarns have become a staple in the shop, and we love hosting her during the crawl. Her Dandelion colorway remains one of my most favorite. The colors are rich and the yarns are so soft!

We will also host designer Lisa Carney-Fenton on Friday. We will have a chance to meet her and check some of her recently-published designs.

Saturday brings Ami of Lakes Yarn and Fiber. I have a slight obsession with this gorgeous stuff, as I have recently admitted. I can't wait to see even more of her beautiful yarns!

We will wrap up on Sunday with Krista of Pigeon Roof Studios. She has recently relocated to Portland, and we feel so fortunate to have her this weekend. She will be showing off her beautiful yarns, including her gradient and ombre sets.

The whole things starts Thursday morning at 10. Join us this weekend for all the fun!

Woolstok Trunk Show

The beautiful Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok has been a popular new yarn at the shop now that fall is upon us. Look at that gorgeous texture and rich color. We are so fortunate to have a trunk show featuring the Woolstok designs. Let's take a peek!

The Cromwell Pullover is just as lovely and classic in real life as I had hoped. I love the scooped neckline and raglan sleeves. I want this one.

The grellow colors of the Tonka Bay Touque are so very Close Knit, and the cute tassels are just adorable. I love the simple textured stitches on this sweet touque.

This Endless Wrap is no joke. This scarf is huge! But so cozy.

And the Trimont Snood in lovely indigo blue is just gorgeous. It can be worn as a cowl or a hood...I suppose that's the definition of a snood!

It's so great to see the yarn worked in all of these different textures. Woolstok is truly beautiful in the skein, but seeing these pieces knit up really gives us a chance to see how gorgeous this yarn can be! Let's look at a few more shades just for fun.

Acorn Hats

Check out these adorable Acorn Hats.

Worked up in Spud & Chloe Outer on a US15, you could have these knit in a jiffy. Outer is a machine washable wool/cotton blend, so soft for little noggins.

Two skeins will make three hats in different sizes. Make some in expected colors or try some crazy combos. Perfect little fall hats!

Blue Sky Fibers Bulky

I am loving these new labels for the Blue Sky Fibers (formerly Alpacas) Bulky. The yarn is the same lovely stuff we have come to know, and we have a little stash of our favorite shades in the drawers.

I was poking around the new Blue Sky Fibers website a bit, and I found this awesome free hat pattern using two skeins of Bulky. If you love the three-color pom, you can find a great little tutorial on their blog as well. You'll just need a little bit of the contrasting colors for the pom. Find a friend and trade scraps, perhaps?

The new blog is really lovely and well worth a look. The Strand represents the joining of the forces behind Blue Sky and Spud & Chloe. They include tutorials, free patterns, and knit-a-longs, as well as interesting articles on organic fibers, sheepy travels, and design inspiration.
