RCYC This Weekend! Closing Early Wednesday

Hey y'all! The Rose City Yarn Crawl is this weekend! Read all about the events happening at our little shop and all around Portland. We have some really beautiful things to share with you.

We are going to close up at 5PM today (with no Open Knit Night) in order to get the shop ready for all of the yarn and all of the people who will be coming through. Can't wait to see you all!

Holiday Hours

Happy holidays, y'all! 

We hope that you are all finding time to rest and enjoy your fiber habits these last few weeks of 2019. We will have a few days with special hours these next few weeks, but we can't wait to see you all to supply your fiber needs.

Here are our special hours:

Tuesday, December 24: 10-3
Wednesday, December 25: Closed with no Open Knit Night

Tuesday, December 31: 10-4
Wednesday, January 1: Closed with no Open Knit Night

Otherwise, we will be in the shop regular hours for you!

There is still time for gift certificates! Or you can sign yourself or a friend up for a class! We have so many fun options on the horizon, including the annual and improved Blanket Classes, Crochet Workshop, and Beginning and Beyond. Let's knit and crochet our way into 2020!

Closed Thursday

Fiber Friends! We will be closing up at 6PM on Wednesday (no Open Knit Night) and closed Thursday this week, so come in and get all of your knitting supplies on Wednesday if you can. Back to our regular hours on Friday, opening at 10AM for all of the yarn shopping. We hope you are all enjoying these windy days!

Hey friends! We are closed Monday, September 2 for the Labor Day holiday. See you back in the shop on Tuesday! 

Normally, we switch to fall hours after Labor Day, but we are going to squeeze one more week out of this summer. Starting Monday, September 9, our fall hours will resume:

Monday - Friday 10-6
Wednesday Open Knit Nights 6-9PM
Saturday 10-5
Sunday 11-4

We are open today (Wednesday) until 6PM, but there will be no Open Knit tonight. 
We are closed Thursday for the holiday.
We will be open at 10AM and ready for you on Friday!

Closed Today!

Hi friends! We will be closed today, September 3.

Our fall hours start up tomorrow. We will be open 10-6 during the week, 10-5 on Saturday, and 11-4 on Sunday. Open Knit Night is still happening on Wednesday from 6-9PM, and we are open for retail during this time, as well.

Summer Hours

I know it doesn't exactly look like summer with our overnight sprinkles and chilly mornings, but June 1st officially signifies our switch to summer hours.

We will be open:
Monday through Friday 11-6,
Open Knit Night on most Wednesdays from 6-9, 
Saturday 10-5, 
and Sunday 12-5.

Close Knit friends! I am not even sure what day it is...this week is so weird. But we are open regular hours all weekend, closed Monday for New Year's Day, and then open again regular hours starting Tuesday. See you soon!

Holiday Hours and a Little (Big) Blanket

As we are all frantically finishing (or starting) gifts this week, I just wanted to give you a heads up on our holiday hours. And show you my fun new favorite project.

Here is what you need to know.
December 23: Open 10-6 (no Open Knit Night)
December 24: Open 10-3
December 25: Closed
December 30: Open 10-6 (no Open Knit Night)
December 31: Open 10-5
January 1: Closed

I don't know about you, but as the holiday whirlwind envelops me, I am thrilled to have a mindless project on the needles with nearly instant gratification.

I'm working on a big ol' blanket using Naturalia in five sheepy colors. On US19 needles, I'm able to knit up a skein each night, given a lot of movie watching and very little kitchen cleaning.

This blanket will be in the shop in January for you to oggle and enjoy, and the free pattern will be readily available with the purchase of the yarn. It's not a complicated pattern. The big yarn/chunky blanket trend is very in right now, and this will be a great way to make your own for just only $100.

Return to Regular Hours

Close Knit returns to regular hours beginning September 8!  We will be open 10-6 Monday through Friday, 10-5 on Saturday, and 11-4 on Sunday.  Open Knit Night continues to meet from 6 to 9PM on Wednesday evenings, and we are open for retail then as well.  See you all soon for more knitting!

Crisp

Are you all feeling that little change in the air?  I know it's still getting nice and warm most days, but fall is just waiting to explode, and we are getting ready ay Close Knit. Fall yarn orders are arriving almost daily, the knitting books and magazines are looking good, and we are returning to our extended hours this week.

I was particularly excited to see Debbie Bliss Blue Faced Leicester DK arrive last week.  Look at the cute little sheep silhouette on the label!  We have been carrying the Aran weight of this yarn in an amazing range of colors since last fall, and it is such a classically beautiful wooly wool.  The DK is equally timeless, but in a slightly lighter weight and a more heathered color palette.

Take a look at the pretty yarn close up.  This would be amazing for some subtle colorwork, don't you think?  I haven't decided what I need to make with this yet.  Any suggestions?

This shipment also included more Baby Cashmerino than you can imagine.  I spent a good two hours getting it on the shelves last week.  If you have a baby project in the works, you should be able to find everything you need.

The Fall 2013 Interweave Knits is pretty durn nice, and the Interweave Holiday Gifts 2013 has several real gems in it, too.  More on those this week.

Since the knitting season is gearing back up again, we are returning to our regular hours this week, although we will be closed on Monday, September 2nd for Labor Day.  Starting Tuesday, September 3rd, we would love to see you 10-6 Monday through Friday, 10-5 on Saturday, and 11-4 on Sunday.  Open Knit Night will continue on Wednesday nights from 6-9 PM.  Fall is coming...it's time to knit!

New Linen and Knit.Wear

A few new things for you!

We are trying out Marks & Kattens Linen in some great rich colors.  It's only $9.25 for 50g of pure linen.  Let us know what you think.  If you like it, we'll see about getting more.

We also have the second issue of knit.wear.  The first issue was AMAZING.  It also sold out in just a few weeks, and we had a hard time getting our hands on any more copies.  Eunny Jang makes an interesting point in her editor's note about finding the intersection of pieces that you'd like to knit and pieces you'd actually like to wear.  I agree that the designs in knit.wear more often than not fit nicely into both categories.  In addition, the magazine is beautiful, and the articles are interesting.  I'll show you more details and have yarn suggestions for you soon.  In the mean time, come grab your copy while we have them.

Also, we are on summer hours now.  We'll be open from 11-6 during the week (M-F), with Wednesday night Open Knit going until 9PM.  Saturday is still 10-5 and Sunday is still 11-4.  Also, please join us on Monday nights for Knit Night at Cruzroom, just a few blocks away!
