Amirisu Issue 19

This newest issue of Amirisu is just so nice. I want to live in its pages. They have switched to a larger format, and it's full of good stuff. My favorites are at the bottom...

These last two are the ones I've got my eye on. A subtly striped pullover in fingering yarn and a stranded yoked psweater in pencil roving. Because my love of knitting spans all the gauges and techniques apparently. Happy knitting!

Amirisu 18

Oh, Amirisu. Issue 18 is full of gorgeous sweaters with so many techniques, textures, and styles.

Do you love colorwork and steeking? Here you go.

How about classic design with a few little details? Yup.

Some graphic colorblocking or stripes? They have that. I can't stop thinking about the striped jacket. So many perfect details.

Texture and lace, too.

And, of course, a hedgehog pom pom.

Wool Sweaters Done Just in Time for Summer

Well, I am really good at finishing up wool sweaters as the weather warms up.

I have been working on my Flaum for more than three years, and I am thrilled be wearing it a few times before the weather turns warm. This one is from Amirisu and knit up in Cascade 220 with a bit of mystery dark grey for the last inch of ribbing and tubular cast off. I learned some new tricks with this one, friends.

I had never tried Fisherman's rib, and I love it! It is a little like brioche but easier to repair when I made mistakes. I did, however, snag it the first day I wore it, so look out for sharp edges with this stitch. Good thing I know how to fix that sort of thing.

I also learned how to do a tubular bind off without having to separate all the knit and purl stitches onto separate needles. This new method still takes a long time, but the finished results are well worth the time.

I started my Felix in March, so I don't feel quite so silly finishing it up in the summer. Again with the tubular cast on and bind off on this one. It is so light and lofty. The designers compares it to the weight and warmth of a down jacket, and she is spot on.

I'm finishing up the first sleeve tonight and about to embark on the second. On a US10, this lovely Lopi knits up in no time at all.

I will wash these two and then pop them in the freezer for a few days to make sure I won't have any moth holes in the fall when I unpack these new friends. Maybe then I will cast on something for summer that should be finished right around October.

Yellow Sweater

I've been working on this sweater for (checks Ravelry...) almost two years. It's a bright yellow Flaum from Amirisu, and I think it's going to be amazing. It's hard to try it on because the hemline is so much longer than my needle, but I think I'm almost done. 

So far, it's gobbled up six (mismatched) skeins of Cascade 220 in all of that squishy fisherman's rib, and I still have a little bit to go. My question for you is, do I get another skein of yellow and hope that it mostly matches? Or do I finish the ribbing and the tubular bind off with a pretty dark grey from the stash?

Thoughts? I'm leaning toward the grey, but I'm open to ideas.

Eye Candy

We have kits for the super cool Lumens scarf on the cover the Winter 2018 Amirisu. I've been a little obsessed with this scarf since I first saw it. So gorgeous. We don't often do kits, but these were too cool to pass up. I can't wait to see how these work up.

Laine, Pompom, and Amirisu (and Making)

These are happening...Laine, Pompom Quarterly, and Amirisu. I love these booklets, and I'm so excited to see them in the shop. I have word that Making might be on it's way, too.

I have been collecting Laine since its first issue, and that scarf on the cover of Amirisu is making my heart pitter-patter. (Kits from the the hand-dyer are on their way.) Pompom is always full of cute stuff, and that cover sweater is worked up in Genmou, which we have in the shop now! (More on that next week.) Stop in to see these beautiful books!

Amirisu Fall 2016

The freshest Amirisu is available in the shop! I love the foresty green feel of this issue...perfect for fall. Let's have an oggle at these beautiful designs.

The shawl on the cover, Nemeton, uses a subtle sock yarn to show off some deep texture. Take a look at those herringbone-ish cables.

Kelly is a reversible cowl with the white colorwork only visible on one side.

I am sort of in love with Tolmie. The subtle stitch details up the front, the split hem, and the graceful neckline...this sweater is calling to me.

Handknit moto vest, anyone? Harley uses a big diagonal zipper to make a big statement.

Grace is a beauty, don't you think? Those flowing cables and open, swingy style are so pretty.

I think Newman is my favorite, though. The yoke is worked cuff to cuff, and then body stitches are picked up and worked down to the hem. All in brioche stitch, of course. So unusual.

We can always count on Amirisu for something out of the ordinary. Do any of these catch your eye?
